Nordea, the largest bank in Northern Europe and the Baltics, has become a supporter of the Riga City general education institution's basketball tournament “VEF Riga School Super League” during its seventh season together with the Latvian Champion Team “VEF Rīga” and the Riga City Council.

Jānis Buks, Nordea Latvia Manager: “In Latvian society, sports are becoming increasingly important not only as recreational and relaxing activities, but also as professional occupations. We can be proud of the achievements of our athletes in various sports at a local and international level, and this performance not only shows our determination and enthusiasm, but is also a source of inspiration for younger generations. It would not be an exaggeration to suggest that the entire nation of Latvia is crazy about basketball at the moment and supports our new talent, therefore I am especially pleased that Nordea's cooperation with the basketball club “VEF Rīga” will now continue at a different level. By supporting “VEF Riga School Super League”, we will encourage youths to maintain an active lifestyle and learn perseverance and ambition while practising sports, which will influence performance in other areas of life”.

Edgars Jaunups, Council Chairman of the basketball club “VEF Rīga”: “We are pleased that Nordea has recognised “VEF Riga School Super League” as an important event by becoming a supporter. This match, during which the players will fight for their school pride is an emotional and decisive one. It will be an opportunity for our future stars such as Dāvis Bertāns, Jānis Timma and others to gain a wider audience. Support for sports at every level is very important in achieving goals, therefore we are particularly pleased with Nordea's decision and hoping for long-term cooperation within the framework of the “VEF Riga School Super League””.
