European Union has adopted a new directive on payment services (PSD2) to improve the existing rules of PSD1 and take new digital payment services into account. The requirements of the new EU Directive (PSD2) on the commission applicable to payments in EU and European Economic Area (EEA) enters into force on January 13, 2018.

From now on the banks will be able to execute all the payments in EU and EEA, regardless of their currency, only with a charge option “SHA” or “shared” - applying charge option “OUR” will no longer be possible. This requirement applies to payments in any currency.

This means that, when executing a payment and paying the commission, the beneficiary bank will charge commission for the incoming payment and commissions of a corresponding bank, if any. As a result, there might be a situation that a smaller amount will appear on the receiver’s account than initially transferred. Exact expenses of all corresponding banks currently are not yet known. No changes will take place for the payments in EUR currency, already now they are executed only with the charge option “SHA”.

For the incoming money transfers from EU and EEA in the non-EU currencies, (USD, RUB, CHN, CAD, JPY, RUB, AUD etc.) the clients, who previously received money transfers with the charge option “Payer” or “OUR", from now on will receive the money as “SHA”, paying the commission for the incoming payment in accordance with the Bank’s price list.
